I got my first credit card when I was a junior in university. I immediately bought a ticket to Mexico, took out a cash advance up to my $500 spending limit and headed south of the border.
I haven't stopped travelling or writing about it since, although I am a little more fiscally responsible these days. My wanderings have led me to own a B&B in Amish Country, manage an eco-resort in the Caribbean and most recently, to relocate to Singapore where I'm always exploring little-known corners of this fascinating, young country as the freelance editor for the "Around Town" section of Time Out Singapore.
What's your favourite thing to do on a Sunday?
I love to sleep and eat, so grabbing an early-afternoon brunch at any of the city's fine hotels lets me accomplish both. That pretty much whiles away the daytime hours. At night, I like to catch a movie in true style at the Gold Class theatre in Vivo City.
How would you spend a long weekend?
I spend lots of time enjoying "the Little Red Dot" but sometimes it gets a little
too little. So when I get an extra day off I like to take advantage of Singapore's excellent location (and airport) and see some of South-East Asia. Flights to Phuket in Thailand take only 90 minutes, Bali is just two-and-a-half hours away, while a ferry ride to the resort island of Bintan in Indonesia takes only 45 minutes.
What's your idea of a good night out?
I love having "bar bites" and cocktails on the outdoor decks at 1 TwentySix Restaurant in East Coast Park. Sipping and munching surrounded by tropical foliage, great breezes, outstanding music and the views of ship lights at sea never fail to blow away the stress of the week.
