Good old style Czech pub grub classed up with a modern interior and decent wine list. The new Lokál has quickly become a favorite amongst locales thanks to its refined take on Czech classics and central location close to Old Town Square.

Locals have taken over despite its city-centre locale. Good service (unfortunately still hard to find) is consistent here as are the laid-back vibes. Food-wise, come hungry for Czech. The kitchen puts a successful artistic spin on the typical specialities.

The Prague 2 neighbourhood of Vinohrady is an excellent place to discover interesting restaurants, bars and a local feel close to the centre. Hlučná Samota is a fave because of their wide-ranging, but still good-quality, menu. Those looking for Czech staples won't be disappointed, but don't overlook the pastas or the game choices if you are so inclined.

Right in the heart of the tourist district, U Provaznice is an unbelievable steal. Excellent, huge platters of Czech cuisine and fresh beer freely flows. It's crowded, especially during lunch, but it shouldn't be missed.

True beer aficionados must head to Merenda in Prague 3. Most pubs and restaurants here have 2, if you are lucky, 3 beers on tap. The magnificent Merenda has 8 taps that rotate frequently for a sampling of brews from across the country. Decent, affordable, mainly meat-based food for meal times too.

Ohh, what to choose. Mozaika has a good-looking international menu and unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to pick. Their burger is consistently mentioned as one of the best in Prague, the tandoori chicken is done quite nicely, and the pastas rate a mention as well. Classy laid-back charm adds to this restaurant's appeal — make a reservation.

This tiny secret is out. Olivia's superb Mediterranean food and kind owners equal a fabulous dining experience. The menu is seafood heavy, but other specialities like veal are also done well.

Like Oliva, this place is nestled in its neighbourhood but for those who seek it out, the kitchen rewards with fantastic food. In De Clara's dining room it's Italian; and the real stuff. Simple, unpretentious home-cooking.

Yeah, it's pizza, but this family-friendly place is regularly packed. Wood-burning ovens serve up the most traditional pies to be found in the city. And that's saying a lot considering the sorry state of international restaurants here.

It's hard to find a decent place in Old Town that isn't a tourist rip-off. Kozicka is equal parts dining and drinking, so no matter what your taste buds are craving, it'll suffice. The cool labyrinth of rooms and the fact the kitchen cooks a bit later than most add to the appeal.
