Fallen in love with New York? Sarah Jessica Parker had it right when she said Manhattan is "the fifth lady in the movie". Here are some of the spots where she shines the most:
Home sweet home
In the movie and the series Carrie Bradshaw lives on the
Upper East Side, but the actual brownstone where the scenes outside her place were shot is in the
West Village. To see those famous steps stroll down Perry Street between Bleecker and West 4th Streets. While you're in the area take the two-block walk over to the
Magnolia Bakery on the corner of Bleecker and West 11th streets to taste the sensational cupcakes that were featured in the TV series. You can also get your
Magnolia Bakery fix at its two other locations in
Midtown and the
Upper West Side.
Perfect pre-war penthouse
You can see the exterior of John and Carrie's new place at 1010 5th Avenue at 82nd Street right across from the
Metropolitan Museum of Art .
Flower power
Samantha and the girls bid on some bling at
Christie's auction house located at 20 Rockefeller Plaza on 49th Street. The public can view the latest treasures going up on the block a few days before each auction.
Engagement announcement
Carrie tells Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte her good news at the
Museum of Modern Art's restaurant,
The Modern. While you're in
Midtown go one block north to check out the other love of Carrie's life, the
Manolo Blahnik store at 31 West 54th Street.
Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue and
Barneys are also close by.
Retail therapy
Carrie was in the
Diane von Furstenberg boutique on Washington Street in the
Meatpacking District when she broke her news to Samantha over the phone. This area is home to some of the most chic stores in the city, including
Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen
and
Scoop NYC, which features the newest items from the hottest designers all under one roof.
Once upon a time
The New York Public Library on 5th Avenue between 40th and 42nd Streets is where Carrie plans to hold her fairytale wedding to Mr Big.
Practice makes perfect?
Carrie and John's rehearsal dinner is held at the fabulous
Chelsea restaurant
Buddakan on 9th Avenue at West 16th Street.
Under the tents
Producers recreated
Fashion Week in
Bryant Park on 6th Avenue between 40th and 42nd streets by building a tent just like the one that once housed the fashion shows. From now on Fashion Week in New York will be held across town at
Lincoln Center.
Meeting in the middle
You don't need me to identify the
Brooklyn Bridge as the spot where Miranda and Steve reunite, but I thought this list would not be complete without mentioning the location of one of the most romantic moments in the film.
Labor of love
Lumi Italian Restaurant on Lexington Avenue at East 70th Street is where Charlotte tells Mr Big: "I curse the day that you were born." Ironically, seconds later the process of giving birth to her baby starts and Big's second chance with Carrie is born.
