Whether you're looking to splash out or keep to a budget, our Insider has the best unbiased Hawaii hotel info out there.
Kalani Oceanside Retreat, Big Island
Easily one of Hawaii's best retreat centres, Kalani is located an easy drive from the active volcano and many of the Big Island's greatest sights. Swim in nearby waterfalls, snorkel, and hike across lava fields by day, and enjoy Kalani's wellness classes, chef-cooked meals, or simply soak in the hot tubs under a blanket of stars by night.
Manago Hotel, Big Island
The Manago is famous for two things — the cheapest basic, clean rooms you'll find on the Kailua-Kona coast, and the delectable pork chops they are make at lunch and dinner in the downstairs restaurant. The Manago is conveniently located near City of Refuge and Kealakekua Bay, where you'll find some of the best snorkelling on the Big Island. Excellent for those on a budget.

The Inn, Hilo, Big Island
The Inn's luxurious guest houses are tucked behind the beautiful Kulaniapia falls in the outskirts of Hilo. Full breakfast is included and an on-site spa is available for those who feel like some pampering. The nightly rate is a bargain considering the quality of the rooms and The Inn's idyllic location.
Sheraton Resort & Spa, Kaanapala Beach, Maui
Excellent service and panoramic ocean views aside, the Sheraton is right next to Black Rock — a cliff that souls use to dive off into the afterlife, according to Hawaiian culture. The daily cliff diving ceremonies at sunset are atmospheric and emphasised by striking views of Lanai and Moloka'i in the background.
Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa, Kaanapala Beach, Maui
This family-friendly haven boasts waterslides, waterfalls, and an impressive menagerie of African birds (which includes a penguin enclosure, of all things...) It also has one of the best oceanfront vistas on Maui.

The Moana Surfrider, O'ahu
Also known as "The First Lady of Waikiki", the Moana Surfrider flung open its doors in 1901 and today stands as one of Waikiki's most iconic landmarks. Swanky, historic, and close to everything, it's easily the best place to stay on O'ahu.
Wilderness Cabins within Haleakala Crater, Maui
Not a hotel per se, but the three redwood log cabins within Haleakala Crater are easily Maui's most exclusive digs. If you love unique travel experiences and you love the great outdoors, request a reservation well in advance and score a night or two deep within one of Maui's most magical landscapes.
Waimea Plantation Cottages, Kauai
Authentic plantation cottages nestled within a palm tree grove, right on Kauai's endless shoreline? How romantic! A definite favourite with honeymooners, this award-winning resort is also a great base for those who are keen to get out and explore sights up and down both ends of the island's major — and only — highway.
Hotel Moloka'i
Basic rooms, nightly entertainment, and oceanfront views. Hotel Moloka'i is a safe bet on an island where accommodations are limited and rates vary drastically.
Hotel Coral Reef, Kaua'i
Built in 1956, this is one of Kauai's oldest and most historic hotels. Along with a prime oceanfront location in Kapaa, Hotel Coral Reef consistently delivers comfortable rooms with giant plasma screen TVs at affordable prices by Hawaiian standards. Check their homepage for ongoing specials.
