Well, lots of different things. You can be bogan, you can be un-bogan [I wasn't sure how to put that], you can be, to me, any race, culture etc and be allowed to [I guess within our laws] practise this culture - or at least to be allowed to have options - to be allowed to participate in your traditional and the Australian culture. In my view as a democratic country, what right do we have to say to someone that they need to assimilate? That policy, from memory of history studies, didn't really work, and was abolished several decades ago. So to be Aussie? Well to me its to live in Australia, be given a fair go and be free from persecution and to have good mates, not to be a stereotype that other countries think we are.
im half aboriginal and half English heritage, to all those who winge whine about our past get a life, every cultures killed people so get your heads in i march under our flag, id fight for the flag and if time permits id die for this country and my mates and family, your an Gussie if you want to be one regardless of who you are or were you came from, our flag represents the country and everyone who lives here, so to all of yous who winge and whine about how the aborigines mate past is past we cant change that so every whiner here shut up ad get a life if you don't like this country people values or cultures then go back to wherever you first came from. peace out
I am a whatt is commonly know as an international mongrel. Born in Ceylon, grew up in New Zealand and settled in Australia. Australia has given alot of people a chance to live a lifestyle they would not otherwise have enjoyed in another country. End of story for me anyway. I will sign off by saying, I say old chap, jolly good show what ?...tootle pip old bean etc etc. PS Allo, Allo has got to be the best comedy ever written.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Oy, oy, oy. How'd ya do, mate? Total Score 18 18
Wat a crock! to be australian isn't about knowlage of past achivements of australians or what Australia day resembles is this country . its about how many beers you can chug while pumping as many cones with throwing up on your self. Thats what it means to be austrailan.
True Aussies would not through rocks at you or discriminate against you, the true Aussie view is to give someone an even chance, so yes while there may be some morons that ruin it for everyone, so does every other culture. We may appear bogans or uncultured, truth is we have the ability to enjoy the quality things in life, although not everywhere has access to it, thus we make our own fun, we may not have the historic buildings of europe, but we do have our own culture, some of it 100 years old, some 40,000, so rather then segragate the community, give everyone a chance and form an opinion based on who they are, not some pre-determined view based on their looks.
You got it ADAM! you hit the nail on the head when its comes to the questions of who we are! Some 'Australians' do pride them self on ignorances and flawed traditional thinking. And its getting worse.
I doubt any roooool Austrayans would get very many of those questions right.
Its sad but true but what we see as being Australian is actually bogan! Do you like to live a lazy lifestyle? Do you lack education and because you feel insecure about it pride yourself on being ignorant and look down on those who go to university? Are you secretley racist and make Ignorant comments without realising it, however pride youself on being a 'good bloke' because you embrace drinking? Do you have a view that immigrants should adapt to 'australian' (bogan) culture or not impose their own values? Do you not realse that the higher generation Australian you the closer your are to those who commited genocide on this land and slaughtered the aboriginal people? What you should realise that Australia was set on a precedent of stealing and killing, therefore next time you think about Australia and what Australia actually is, it is what it is. It is a country developed from various cultures, people from all over and if you really dont like what you see, then maybe you should leave!
Thanks for your comment regarding the spelling of 'meter'. You're absolutely right - the correct spelling is 'metre' and this mistake has been fixed. Ta.
