The idea behind Diwali (or, the 'Festival of Lights') comes from various versions of an ancient Hindu story, but basically translates as a celebration of good over evil and the awareness of one's own inner light, truth and knowledge. Aside from the spiritual nature of the festival, it's also a great opportunity to have some fun with fireworks!
