Visas

Forget the Queensland jokes; you don't need a passport to cross the border.

Social conventions

Leave the suits and ties at home; this is a super-casual place, especially in summer. City attitudes are best left behind too — things happen at their own pace here!

Best time to visit

Most people come for beach holidays in summer, but many locals believe the Sunshine Coast is at its best in winter, with clear-blue skies, temperatures in the low to mid-20s and no crowds.

The busiest periods are Christmas/New Year's and Easter, when you need to book well ahead. Look for accommodation bargains in February, May, June and October. Or you might want to time your visit to coincide with one of the big annual events, such as the Noosa Triathlon (October-November), Noosa Food & Wine Festival (May) or Woodford Folk Festival (December-January).
