City

Zekka is at 74 King Street, and has brought a burst of je ne sais quoi. Breakfast here, lunch here, do coffee here, even shop for clothes here!

Infinity Café is a popular and pleasant surprise in East Perth doing yummy breakfasts/lunches, right-on coffee and lamentably hard-to-find loose leaf tea. It's all reasonably priced and served by friendly staff so get on down to 111/131 Adelaide Terrace.

We had our wedding reception at Friend's Restaurant in the Hyatt Centre on Terrace Road, East Perth, and were blown away by the food, the service, the ambiance and the view. And their wine card is the best around.

North

According to an industry insider, 399 has the two best barmen in town so sidle up to 399 William Street and see if you can pick who they are! Arrive for their weekend Bloody Mary breakfast — definitely for the faint-hearted to get the blood pumping, or for a classic hotdog and martini combo on a Tuesday night. Otherwise, a simple sidecar in the courtyard our back refreshes the soul.

Still pumping out Asian dishes for less than $10, the Viet Hoa at 349 William Street, Northbridge, is endlessly cheap and cheerful, ever popular and prompt — 10 till 10, seven days a week.

Tasty morsels are on offer at Ha-Lu, 4/401 Oxford Street, Mt Hawthorn, where the menu gives the subtleties of Japanese cuisine a kinky Aussie twist. Surprise yourself by enjoying the tofu (ask for agedashi tofu — the deep-fried variety), and the slow-cooked pork belly is a taste sensation.

South

Thai Corner at 893 Canning Highway in Applecross has been going for 20 years, has won more awards than you can poke a stick at, and you're always assured good food and a good night. Now also with a dinky eating house at 2/22 Parry Avenue, Bateman.

Some like it hot and those who do head to 7 Spices, 35 Ardross Street, Applecross, for authentic flavours and a great variety of dishes from India and Sri Lanka. On Friday and Saturday evenings they bring on the buffet feast.

There's always a queue at 273 Mill Point Road in South Perth, where locals swarm to get their fix of Aussie-Italian grub at Ciao Italia. Find it and find out what all the fuss is about. Then tell me.

East

Hombre! Hunker down in the dim alcoves of Pancho's Mexican Villa, 885 Albany Highway, East Victoria Park. Get the night going with goldfish bowls of frozen margaritas in this cantina where atmosphere is everything and food is incidental.

They're always packed and certainly don't need this plug, but Sushi Station Fuji at 233 Albany Highway in Vic Park does ridgey-didge Japanese food. Order a bunch of different dishes from the entrée menu, not forgetting the gyoza, a type of pan-fried dumpling. Umai–zo! Telephone: 08 93623796.

West

Don't bother with the menu at Sayers; surveying the cabinet will get the juices flowing and whatever you choose will be delicious! They're open for breakfast and lunch, so if in Leederville, make a beeline for 1/224 Carr Place.

Last time i went to Pancho's i had a live cricket in my salad. And when i complained they told me i had to pay becuase i had started eating it. When i refused they told me I could have a cocktail, and when i told them i dont drink they offered me a different meal but i had to pay the difference.
Witches Cauldron in Subi is alright. Though as a previous poster already pointed out, eating out at most restaurants in Perth is incredibly expensive, even by European standards.
You forgot to mention in your article - dine in food prices are among the dearest if not among the dearest of any country..... regards........
The best Thai south of the river that I've tried is Chock Dii Thai in East Vic Pk, and you can't go past Jewel of the Park for Indian just up the road. Look out for the little authentic places tucked away, they offer so much for such a small price!!
you have to go to tony ramos on hay street that place is fantastic pay a bit but is definitly worth it.
The best Chinese food I've ever had is Henry's in Midland near the town clock. Non-descript little restaurant that never fails to deliver in the taste stakes.
