Your five day itinerary starts when you fly in to Broome on the jet. Make sure you get a window seat as this town is spectacular from the air. Broome is on a peninsula — try to pick the Kangaroo shape of the landscape as you are coming in for landing!

Live it up and stay somewhere nice and enjoy the courtesy transfer service to your hotel. Take an hour or two to adjust to the climate and enjoy a cocktail by the pool as you prepare for your next four days. Broome is about relaxing, eating, getting an all over tan and enjoying some fine culinary fare, so first things first, buy some cool clothes, preferably in a color that compliments your neon white skin if this is your first adventure to the tropics!

Day Two

Join a Willie Creek Pearl Farm Tour. This provides a great insight into the town and the whole pearl gig. Do the morning tour so you are back in town for lunch. Go to Matso’s Broome Brewery, the Divers Camp Tavern or the Old Zoo Café for lunch then get your swimmers and go to the beach. You can go for tan marks on the normal beach or risk sunburn in those places that have never seen the light of day before at the nudie beach. All walking distance from the bus stop or car park. BEWARE the nudie beach is not for the faint-hearted – there are some spectacular ‘if it were my grandmother she wouldn’t be allowed out in public’ sights to behold. In the evening go to the Sun Pictures outdoor picture theatre and take in movie. Go to Noodlefish, The Arli Bar or Som Thai for dinner — all walking distance to outdoor (or the Indoor) cinema.

Day Three

Start with either breakfast at your hotel or head down to the Town Beach Café for brekkie. The Eggs Benedict are excellent. If the tide’s right, take your togs and have a swim. (Check conditions for jelly-fish etc). If you like history you can take in the Broome Historical Museum while you are in the vicinity. If you like art you could spend the rest of the day looking at galleries as there are a stack of them. Broome has some very talented people — Monsoon gallery, Dacou gallery, Short St. gallery, Windram Art and Murranji gallery (photography) are some not already mentioned and worth visiting. If you couldn’t give a flying about art and have chosen Broome for the water get onboard the Intombi, a refurbed original pearling lugger operated by Broome Pearling Lugger Experience This is a beautiful afternoon cruise along Cable Beach. Drinks are available for purchase and the food is fresh and excellent. Pick up is about 1.30pm and you return after sunset, costs around $120 and is worth every dollar. By the time you’ve finished the cruise you’ll probably be feeling quite merry. Forget dinner, go for some partying at the Zeebar at Cable Beach.

Day Four

OK, you’re nursing a hangover so don’t choose a scenic flight at this stage. It’s probably a great day for a sleep in and then checking out some of the sights. The Broome Port and Riddell Beach, Gantheaume Point, the Japanese Cemetary, the Pearl Luggers exhibition, some of the shops or some time by the pool. If you want a little soft adventure find out what tours Broome Hovercraft are operating. It could be the one hour scenic, or even better the afternoon tour around the bay that stops for refreshments on the exposed tidal flats. If that’s too much you could have a look at the evening Astro Tour or find out if there are any special events occurring.

Day Five

Time for a bit of outback discovery.
Option 1: Chomley’s Tours for a tour of the Dampier Peninsula to Cape Leveque. This can be done in a day, but it’s a big one — 7am through to 9pm-ish. Includes the lot — aboriginal history, mudcrabbing, beach swimming and meeting the locals. From $245.
Option 2: Half or Full day flight/tour to the Horizontal Falls, including the boat ride. There are two operators offering various tours from half to full day (or overnight if you want). They start at about $600 pp. The horizontal falls are in a stunning coastal location in the Buccaneer Archipelago. This is a tour you’ll remember for a long time. www.horizontalfalls.com.au or www.kimberleyextreme.com.au
