Vanessa has lived in the Kimberley since 1992.

She lived in Broome from 1998 to 2009 working in the pearling industry, first for Arrow Pearls for whom she established the heritage project Pearl Luggers , and later for the Willie Creek Pearl Farm. In between she operated her own consultancy business and completed projects for operators such as . Broome Hovercraft, Faraway Bay, Kooljaman Resort, Broome Sightseeing Tours and many more. Having just moved back to Kununurra she has began freelance writing again and continues to sell and promote her partner’s two well-known books Icons of the Kimberley and Rhythms of the Kimberley.

Favourite thing to do on a Sunday.

A walk with the dog somewhere in the bush early in the morning and going out on the boat and exploring the magnificent wetlands of Lake Kununurra.

How would you spend a long weekend?

Plenty of nearby destinations from Kununurra — Lake Argyle, El Questro, Wyndham or Keep River National Park, take your pick!

What’s your idea of a good night out?

Sunset drinks overlooking the lake somewhere (Pumphouse Restaurant the current choice) followed by a good hearty meal and a nice bottle of red. The Country Club is currently meeting the need!
