Sir Richard Branson: Space tourism just months away

Virgin Galactic is almost ready for take-off!

Tourists are about to get a very different view of earth. Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space tourism program has marked an important milestone with the completion of the runway of the world's first custom-built commercial spaceport in the southern New Mexico desert. Take a tour of Richard Branson's spaceport in the above video.

"Our spaceship is flying beautifully and will soon be making powered flights…we are seeing unprecedented number so people coming forward to secure their own reservations for this incredible experience," said Branson.

Branson expects the first bout of space tourism to start in nine to 18 months, and he's set to be a part of the first trip. A trip on the SpaceShipTwo costs around $200,000, delivering around five minutes of weightlessness. So far, around 380 customers have made deposits that add up to $50million in total.

Spaceport America features a three-kilometre-long runway, and the nearly-finished terminal hangar facility is set to hold two WhiteKnightTwo aircrafts and five SpaceShipTwo spacecrafts.
