First-ever Barbie-themed cruise: Dream holiday or worst nightmare?

First-ever Barbie-themed cruise: Dream holiday or worst nightmare?
It's the holiday for a Barbie girl in a Barbie world.

Fans of Mattel's enduring plastic beauty Barbie can now live their doll dreams aboard the first-ever Barbie-themed cruise at sea.

Leave behind the dream house and that dud Ken — it's time to party in a floating parade of pink, thanks to Mattel and Royal Caribbean International's exclusive "Barbie Premium Experience".

On select ships, Barbie devotees will get their very own themed rooms with a signature doll, clothing, blankets, pillowcases, tote bags, toothbrushes and toiletry bags.

There's also a raft of Barbie-tastic activities including an invite-only "Tiaras and Teacups" party (does that exclude dads?), which offers "a whimsical palate of pink pastries and pink lemonade served on dainty dishes all while having fun learning tips on table etiquette". No word yet on whether an "eat your brussel sprouts" lecture will be given.

They also offer a mermaid dance class (how does a mermaid actually dance?), a fashion design workshop and a special "Barbie Girls" fashion show. At that show, young'uns get to walk the "pink carpet", perform their dance and show off their Project Runway-esque designs.

Royal Caribbean's "Adventure Ocean" youth program also lets young girls enjoy a Barbie movie night, story time and other complimentary activities.

The "Barbie Premium Experience" sets sail from January 2013, and will roll out across 22 liners by March. Bookings open in late October.
