New 'Stuffa' jacket lets travellers wear their luggage

New 'Stuffa' jacket helps travellers avoid excess baggage fees

We've all done it: Boarded a plane wearing five layers of clothing, our pockets crammed with our heaviest possessions just to save a few bucks.

But soon we'll be able to avoid excess baggage fees without looking like crazy hobos on holiday (no guarantees we won't end up looking a bit chubby though).

The 'Stuffa' jacket is described as a "walking suitcase" — a sleeveless body warmer with 12 separate storage compartments.

Technology blog Gizmodo took the prototype for a test run, managing to stuff the puffer-style top with a pair of jeans, a light hoodie, a pair of long shorts, four t-shirts, six pairs of socks, four pairs of "gentleman's undergarments", and a winter scarf.

Not bad!

British designer Sandro Cafasso hopes to have the jacket on the market by November with a price tag of around $150.

He says he came up with the idea after a fellow passenger on a low cost airline was charged for carrying excess baggage.

"I mean, I am six foot tall and weigh almost 100kgs," Sandro writes on his website. "There was a girl who I had worked with all winter, almost half my weight, being asked to pay an extra £120 [$180] because she was 6kg over!"

The Stuffa jacket looks pretty good on these hot models. We're not so sure how it would look on the rest of us once it's stuffed full of dirty undies and bulky Balinese trinkets, though.

What a great incentive to have obese frequent flyers lose weight. At the same time reward the slim ones.Up to 100 kilos free but charge extra after that. Go for it airlines, it sounds like a win win for all concerned.
Tall people weigh more than short people - so how on earth would they even charge people that weigh more simply because they are taller? Its discrimination and has no place here in Australia. Just because he doesn't have an issue with his weight, clearly he has no shame. Just money hungry companies wanting to find another way to make more money. We pay enough already for airline travel. The airlines make millions of dollars of profit as it is. No one would fly if that were the case!
