The Snowdown

Our Snowdown bloggers, Trent Yeo and Tom Walter, live and work in Queenstown, one of New Zealand's top winter playgrounds. In the runup to this winter season, they'll be giving us their insider perspective on the places to ski, snowboard, hike, bungy, fly, eat — and drink. Trent and Tom will also be online in our chatroom in a few weeks time, so don't miss the chance to talk to them about your own winter holiday plans.

Backcountry missions ,

This is my seventh year of backcountry missions in and around Queenstown. There are so many places just out of the public view, but no more than 30 minutes from the centre of town. They may require a bit more effort than some of the better known tourism experiences, but as with many of the good things in life — the more you put in, the more you get out. And free is the best price!

Shoulder season in NZ , It is shoulder season here in Queenstown. The orange and red colours are giving way to intermittent whites and the first few snowfalls to all the way to Lake Wakatipu altitude have caused a quick rush for down jackets. So what do locals do when the tourists are away? Well of course we do the tourist stuff!
