Daylesford — the calm before the storm

, Prev

G'day, Australia!

Welcome to On the Road with Stevie, my new blog on ninemsn Travel. Since I'm always on the go around this beautiful country of ours, I thought I'd check in with you a few times a week to let you know a bit about where I am, what we're up to ... and give you a taste of what goes on behind the scenes on TODAY. So let's get to it!

This morning I'm in Daylesford, which is spectacularly beautiful ... and just on Melbourne's doorstep, an hour's drive away. It's the spa capital of Australia and a Mecca for foodies and wine lovers. 80% of Australia's mineral spring water can be found right here, so it's the perfect place to come with your partner for a rejuvenating soak.

We're here for the calm before the storm, so to speak, because in the next couple of hours Daylesford's going to be battered with winds over a hundred kilometres an hour — kind of hard to believe considering how peaceful it is right now! But never fear — there are plenty of European cafés and cosy gastro-pubs to offer me refuge!

I have to tell you about a funny thing that happened during filming this morning. I was on camera giving the 7:35am weather, standing in front of the beautiful Lake House Resort, where we're staying, when all of the sudden the crew were bent over in hysterics. The cameraman was pointing just behind me, so I took a quick gander ... and discovered a group of about five geese engaged in some hard-core group-goosing! The feathers were flying and it was all I could do to keep a straight face. But that's the wonder of live television ... you never know what's going to happen!

Heading back to Melbourne tomorrow, so I'll check in with you from somewhere interesting in the cultural capital then. Have a fantastic day, everyone, and see you tomorrow on TODAY.

~ Stevie

Hi Steve, it's great to see you travelling all around Australia, but could you put us in your travels??? It's just the best place up here, lots to see and do, beautiful beaches and a very relaxed lifestyle. In December (the first weekend) we have "The Mardi Gras" festival, with street parades, floats and Mardi Gras Queens, and little princes and princesses (not like the cross) and it's a great weekend for the locals and tourists. It would be wonderful to see you and the Today gang up here. Look forward to seeing you on the TV, love your humour and the pranks you get up too, thanks for the laughs each morning, Mandy.x

I have been a fan of TODAY for several years now and look forward to seeing your smiling face and sense of humour every morning. I always look forward to your next adventure but you seem to have heaps of fun no matter where you are, even if it's just in the studio. Wonderful to see and I'll be checking in here for updates every couple of weeks. Take care, Suz

Love your ways Stevie, you always make me smile.
Hi Stevie, Just wanted to say thanks for allowing my wife to have her photo taken with you at Olympic Park last Friday August 28th. We cooked the BBQ there for the hungry Melbourne Storm fans. Thanks again, Shane.
Am so happy you've decided to blog! I was a HUGE Today Show fan until April last year when the NZ television powers-that-be decided it wasn't popular enough here and removed it from our screens. I was very much broken-hearted (as were a lot of other people judging from feedback over here) and can now only watch the bits which are put on the website each day, just isn't the same but is better than nothing. You were always my favourite person on the show (everyone is great of course), love your wit and sense of humour Stevie! Your blog will now be a fun extra for this TODAY-less person! My husband and I always look forward to being able to view TODAY each time we visit your gorgeous country anyway - NZ can't take that away from us! Best wishes Stevie and thanks again.
